Hello! I am looking for some help with my biopsy report. It is confusing to me, and I do not know exactly what I have, although I'm sure it's folliculitis.
Microscopic Description: There is some crust on the surface and in the dermis what appears to be a perifollicular distribution there is a granulomatous dermatitis and fragments of a hair shaft and some keratin and a little bit of amorphous eosinophilic material.
Diagnosis: Changes compatible with a ruptured folliculitis, with secondary granulomatous inflammation.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The biopsy is taken from skin. The superficial surface of the skin is showing crusting or accumulation of dried exudates. There is inflammation around the hair follicles and granulomatous inflammation in the dermis. All the above mentioned changes are due to rupture of the hair follicle and release of keratin in the surrounding tissue. Keratin is the protective layer which surrounds the hair shaft. Keratin is foreign substance against which granulomatous reaction is mounted. The changes which have occurred will resolve with time and it requires observation and antibiotic cover (optional).
